Chad’s security ministry boosts vigilance for tabaski celebrations
General Ali Ahmat Aghabache, Chad’s Minister of Public Security and Immigration, issued directives on May 25, 2026, instructing security forces to intensify surveillance across public areas and places of worship in anticipation of the upcoming Tabaski holiday.
Through an official communiqué, Minister Aghabache called upon all relevant departments to implement comprehensive measures and maintain peak vigilance. The objective is to safeguard mosques, churches, and other religious sites, alongside bustling markets, government buildings, and all public gathering points throughout the Tabaski festivities.
The directive unequivocally stresses the imperative for rigorous enforcement of these security protocols for the entire duration of the celebratory period.
Tabaski, also recognized as Eid al-Adha, stands as one of the most significant Islamic observances. It is traditionally marked by extensive communal prayers, ritual animal sacrifices, and numerous family and community reunions. This period typically sees a substantial increase in foot traffic at religious venues and marketplaces, necessitating heightened precautions.
These crucial instructions are issued against a backdrop of persistent security challenges prevalent across the broader Sahel region. The reinforcement of security protocols aims to proactively avert any potential incidents that could disrupt the peaceful observance of the holiday.
