Côte d’Ivoire accelerates digital inclusion through new youth partnership
Côte d’Ivoire unites with global and private sectors to empower young innovators
Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire — A landmark collaboration between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Orange Côte d’Ivoire is setting the stage for a digital revolution aimed at empowering the nation’s youth, particularly young women, and fostering entrepreneurship across the country.
The strategic agreement, signed in the economic capital on May 21, 2026, underscores a shared vision to bridge digital divides and reduce socioeconomic inequalities by leveraging technology and innovation. Both partners are committed to launching joint initiatives that align with national development priorities and global sustainability goals.
Through this partnership, targeted digital skills training programs will be rolled out to equip young Ivorians with the tools needed to thrive in an increasingly digital economy. Startups and entrepreneurial hubs will receive dedicated support, while digital inclusion efforts will extend to rural communities and underserved populations, ensuring no one is left behind in the digital transformation journey.
The collaboration will be anchored by the Orange Digital Center, a flagship initiative designed to nurture tech talent and provide mentorship to budding entrepreneurs. This hub will serve as a catalyst for innovation, offering guidance and resources to turn ideas into viable businesses.
Blerta Cela, the UNDP Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, emphasized the significance of this alliance, stating, « This partnership marks a pivotal moment in our collective effort to fast-track digital inclusion and entrepreneurship. By joining forces with the private sector and international partners, we are paving the way for a more equitable and sustainable future for all Ivorians. »
Mamadou Bamba, CEO of Orange Côte d’Ivoire, echoed this commitment, highlighting the company’s dedication to creating tangible opportunities for young people and vulnerable groups through digital empowerment. « Our goal is to unlock the potential of Côte d’Ivoire’s youth by providing them with the skills and resources to succeed in the digital age, » he noted.
The initiative is also aligned with Côte d’Ivoire’s National Development Plan and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, positioning the country as a key player in the global digital economy.
