Abidjan will soon host a landmark event marking two decades of celebrating African economic progress. The Builders of the African Economy platform, a distinguished panafrican initiative, has unveiled its latest honors recognizing nations that have implemented transformative public policies and achieved sectoral excellence.

Celebrating policy-driven growth across Africa

In a special 20th-anniversary edition, the organization introduced a dedicated category to honor countries demonstrating remarkable strides in key economic sectors through effective governance. The selection process involved an independent jury of seasoned African economists and journalists who evaluated submissions based on policy impact, economic performance, sectoral advances, and contributions to continental integration.

Winners span diverse economic frontiers

Among the distinguished recipients, the Côte d’Ivoire stands out for its outstanding achievements in agriculture. Other nations were recognized for their leadership in critical domains: the Democratic Republic of the Congo in mining, the Seychelles in education and workforce development, Morocco in health and pharmaceutical innovation, Egypt in infrastructure, and Kenya in technology and artificial intelligence.

The awards also acknowledged energy leadership in Algeria, industrial and service sector excellence in South Africa, tourism and hospitality innovation in Tanzania, creative industries in Nigeria, and environmental sustainability in Morocco. Special recognitions went to Namibia for gender equality initiatives, Ghana for diaspora engagement, and an additional honor for Morocco’s comprehensive national transformation over two decades.

Recognizing visionary leadership

Michel Russel Lohoré, founder of the Builders of the African Economy, emphasized that this initiative shines a spotlight not only on businesses and economic leaders but also on governments that craft and implement policies driving sustainable continental progress.

Valentin Mbougueng, jury president and international affairs specialist, noted that the evaluation drew from global rankings, regional assessments, industry publications, and the practical insights of jury members.

A gala to honor excellence

The prestigious awards will be presented during a gala evening in Abidjan on June 18, celebrating the platform’s 20-year commitment to spotlighting Africa’s economic pioneers. Established in 2006, the platform continues to champion businesses, institutions, and investors dedicated to the continent’s development.
