Diouf slams sonko over constitutional reforms: ‘we don’t need a self-proclaimed revolutionary’

During a press briefing held by the Diomaye Président coalition, Minister Abdourahmane Diouf delivered a sharp rebuke to National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko, dismissing his criticisms of ongoing constitutional reforms as baseless political maneuvering. The minister emphasized that Senegal’s stability remains unshaken under President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who has consistently pledged to uphold institutional integrity and social harmony since taking office in 2024.

Addressing the 2024 electoral process, Abdourahmane Diouf pointed out that Ousmane Sonko had initially advocated for a delay in the presidential election before later endorsing Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s candidacy during the campaign. He stressed that previous leaders refrained from such actions, ensuring continuity rather than disruption.

The minister’s tone grew increasingly confrontational as he dismissed Ousmane Sonko’s leadership, mocking his self-styled image as a “guardian of revolution.” Diouf left no room for ambiguity, declaring, « We don’t need a self-proclaimed revolutionary peddling empty promises… »
