françois silibi assumes parliamentary seat in Bénin, replacing louis vlavonou

François Silibi officially commenced his tenure as a member of Bénin’s National Assembly on Friday, July 10, 2026. This significant political development sees him succeed Louis Vlavonou, who vacated his parliamentary seat following his appointment as a de jure member of the Senate, a position granted due to his prior service as President of the National Assembly.

The formal inauguration ceremony for the newly appointed deputy took place today at the Palais des Gouverneurs in Porto-Novo, immediately following a plenary session.

Born in 1982, François Silibi brings a background as an English professor to his new role. Hailing from Ifangni, the same locality as his predecessor Louis Vlavonou, Silibi will now serve as the representative for this constituency within the 10th legislature.
His official installation as a deputy in the National Assembly means he will complete the remainder of the term left vacant by Vlavonou, which is scheduled to conclude in February 2033.

As the designated alternate for the former President of the National Assembly, François Silibi marks his official entry into parliamentary duties. His ascension follows the resignation of Louis Vlavonou, a retired customs officer, who is set to assume his ex-officio position in the upper house, the Senate, starting July 30.
