Bénin: François Silibi officially joins national assembly, replacing Louis Vlavonou
François Silibi formally commenced his tenure in Bénin’s National Assembly this Friday, July 10, 2026. He steps into the parliamentary seat previously held by Louis Vlavonou, who transitioned to the Senate as a de jure member, a position he assumed due to his prior service as President of the National Assembly.
The inauguration ceremony for the newly appointed deputy unfolded today following a plenary session held at the historic Palais des Gouverneurs in Porto-Novo.
Born in 1982, François Silibi is an accomplished English professor. Hailing from Ifangni, the same constituency as his predecessor Louis Vlavonou, Silibi is now tasked with representing this district within the 10th legislature.
With this official induction, François Silibi assumes his duties as a deputy in the National Assembly, committed to fulfilling the remainder of the term left vacant by Louis Vlavonou, which is scheduled to conclude in February 2033.
As the alternate for the former President of the National Assembly, François Silibi marks his parliamentary debut. His ascension follows the resignation of the retired customs officer, Louis Vlavonou, who is set to join the upper chamber as a de jure member beginning July 30.
