Libreville mayor Eugène Mba meets President Oligui Nguema to discuss urban transformation

Urban renewal and municipal governance take center stage in Libreville meeting

The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, received Libreville’s mayor, Eugène Mba, yesterday at the Palais Rénovation. This was the second high-level interaction between the two leaders since their initial meeting on April 28, focusing on evaluating local governance performance, tracking municipal progress, and strengthening state-local coordination.

During the session, Mayor Mba presented a comprehensive report on his administration’s first 30 days in office, which began on April 24. He outlined the newly restructured municipal team and detailed key initiatives aimed at revitalizing Gabon’s capital. Among the priorities discussed were modernizing urban infrastructure, expanding green spaces, combating illegal public land occupation, and upgrading neighborhood-level facilities. Digital transformation of municipal services also featured prominently in the dialogue.

The Head of State emphasized the critical need to enhance urban sanitation, highlighting cleanliness as a top national priority. He stressed that improving household waste collection systems must become a policy cornerstone to achieve this goal. President Oligui Nguema reiterated Gabon’s ambition to become a model nation, with Libreville serving as the showcase for international standards in urban planning, local governance, and public service delivery.

Concluding the meeting, the President called on Mayor Mba to lead with unwavering rigor, creative problem-solving, and measurable efficiency in implementing the agreed-upon transformation agenda.
