President GOÏTA initiates construction of 15 cutting-edge hospitals in Mali

Bamako, November 10, 2025. General Assimi GOÏTA, the President of the Transition, officially inaugurated the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project by laying its foundational stone. This significant event, hosted at the Korofina Reference Health Center in Commune I of the Bamako District, signals the commencement of an extensive initiative designed to fundamentally upgrade Mali’s national healthcare infrastructure.

Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo TOURÉ, the Minister of Health and Social Development, underscored that this undertaking aligns seamlessly with the conclusions drawn from the General States of Health held in December 2024. Those discussions had pinpointed the critical need to enhance healthcare accessibility and elevate the standard of medical services across the entire nation.

Comprehensive restructuring of Mali’s hospital network

According to the Minister, this ambitious project targets a substantial modernization and overhaul of the existing hospital system. It encompasses the construction of fifteen brand-new hospitals and the conversion of current Reference Health Centers (CSREF) within the Bamako District into fully operational District Hospitals. These extensive works, wholly financed through the national budget, are projected to span 12 months for facilities in Bamako and 24 months for those situated in the regions.

The Presidential Emergency Hospital Project is structured around three primary components:

  1. The conversion of Reference Health Centers (CSREF) across Bamako’s seven arrondissements into upgraded district hospitals.
  2. The establishment of new district hospitals in the localities of Bla and Kangaba.
  3. The development of state-of-the-art regional hospitals in key cities such as San, Koutiala, Bougouni, Dioïla, Nioro, Bandiagara, and Koulikoro.

These forthcoming healthcare facilities will be outfitted with cutting-edge medical equipment, boast significantly enhanced hospitalization capacities, and offer a range of specialized services. Notably, this includes the provision of hemodialysis units specifically for the hospitals located in Bamako’s 1st and 6th arrondissements, addressing critical patient needs.

Ensuring project success: priorities and oversight

Following the ceremony, the President of the Transition reiterated that robust public health is a fundamental pillar for national development. He specifically urged the Minister of Health to meticulously oversee the uninterrupted provision of public services throughout the construction phase and to ensure strict adherence to all contractual timelines. Furthermore, President GOÏTA emphasized the profound human impact of this initiative: to bring high-quality healthcare closer to citizens, minimize the need for medical evacuations, and alleviate the strain on existing medical facilities.
