The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) conducted a comprehensive escort and security operation for civilian vehicles along the critical Kayes – Sandaré – Diéma – Bamako road corridor from June 23 to June 29, 2026. This mission was designed to bolster safety and ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods on this vital route within Mali.

The operation commenced with an initial FAMa detachment providing escort for a convoy of 540 civilian trucks traveling from Kayes to Sandaré. Concurrently, a second military group departed from Diéma on June 23 to rendezvous with the convoy. Upon their meeting, this second group took charge of the 540 trucks, alongside several additional vehicles that had been temporarily immobilized in Sandaré.

Following a successful regrouping in Diéma, the combined convoy swelled to a total of 940 civilian trucks. Under the vigilant protection of the FAMa, this substantial procession traversed through key locations including Sebabougou, Kwala, Diédiéni, Kolokani, and Kati, ultimately reaching Bamako without encountering any significant incidents or security breaches.

This successful undertaking underscores the FAMa’s ongoing commitment to its permanent missions: securing strategic road networks across the nation. By doing so, they guarantee the safety of road users and uphold the principle of free movement throughout Mali’s national territory, contributing significantly to Sahel current affairs and regional stability.
