Mali’s New Outlook: Balancing Mining, Security, and Diplomacy

The Mali of today is a country in transformation, driven by a desire for national sovereignty and self-sufficiency. Under the impetus of its authorities, the nation is undergoing structural reforms and achieving operational successes to ensure a prosperous future for its citizens.

Economic Sovereignty at the Heart of Development

The mining sector is spearheading this metamorphosis. With the slogan « Let Gold Shine for the Malians », Mali has adopted a new mining code allowing the state and national investors to hold up to 35% of projects.

Regulating Artisanal Gold Trade

These reforms have already enabled the recovery of $760 million CFA. By 2026, this strict management has favored the redistribution of $18.4 billion CFA to 819 municipalities to finance healthcare and education infrastructure.

The country is also diversifying its production with lithium from Goulamina and Bougouni, aiming to become Africa’s leading producer.

Security and Logistics: The Pillars of Stability

Malian development relies on the strengthening of the Forces Armées Maliennes (FAMa) and its partners. The arrival in Bamako of a massive convoy of over 900 camions-citernes escorted by military forces on July 10, 2026, demonstrated the state’s ability to secure energy supplies.

Securing the Future

Simultaneously, a series of aerial operations in Anéfis neutralized over 100 terrorists and secured vital logistics axes.

A Diplomacy of Co-operation Revived

On the regional scene, Mali is consolidating its relations. The decision to reopen air space for flights from Algeria and the return of the Malian ambassador to Algeria mark a key step in revitalizing diplomatic cooperation.

With new mining structures like SOREM and major industrial projects, Mali demonstrates resilience and ambition, confirming that progress is also underway in neighboring countries as part of the Alliance des États du Sahel (AES).
