Morocco and uk aim to boost trade ties ahead of 2030 world cup projects
Morocco and the United Kingdom are setting ambitious goals to double their bilateral trade volumes and accelerate joint investments, leveraging the momentum from major infrastructure projects and preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting in Rabat, where Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour and UK Minister of State for International Trade Chris Bryant outlined their shared vision.
Speaking at the opening of the Morocco-UK Business Forum, Bryant, leading a high-powered delegation of British government and private sector representatives, underscored the strategic importance of doubling trade flows and deepening economic collaboration. He highlighted the 2030 World Cup as a transformative catalyst, not only boosting the country’s appeal to foreign investors but also catalyzing infrastructure upgrades and creating lasting socioeconomic benefits for future generations.
Mezzour emphasized that the 2030 tournament is far more than a sporting event—it represents a pivotal development opportunity. He pointed out that beyond the host cities, the initiative is driving nationwide improvements in transportation networks, healthcare systems, and public facilities. He also stressed that Morocco is implementing a comprehensive eight-year territorial and economic transformation agenda, positioning itself as a gateway to new investment opportunities.
Addressing British business leaders, Mezzour invited UK companies to participate actively in Morocco’s public procurement programs and large-scale transformation projects. He called for partnerships rooted not in temporary technology transfers but in sustainable investment, innovation, and long-term competitiveness. This approach, he noted, would help Morocco solidify its role in global value chains.
The two-day Morocco-UK Business Forum, held in Rabat and Casablanca on June 2 and 3, brought together nearly 50 British enterprises specializing in infrastructure development, transportation, security, engineering, design, and professional services.
