Morocco and Vietnam celebrate 65 years of diplomatic partnership in Rabat

A significant milestone was reached in Rabat as the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Vietnam was honored during a special commemorative event. Organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in collaboration with the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, the gathering highlighted decades of cooperation and shared history.

Honoring a legacy of peace and friendship

A major highlight of the celebration was the opening of a thematic exhibition titled “President Ho Chi Minh – Symbol of Peace and International Friendship.” Open to the public until June 26, the display chronicles the life and journey of Vietnam’s national liberation hero, emphasizing his dedication to independence and global harmony.

The festivities, supported by the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association and the President Ho Chi Minh Commemorative Site, also included a strategic seminar. This session focused on expanding bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including diplomacy, economics, culture, and academic exchanges.

A shared history and common values

During the opening remarks, Mustapha El Ktiri, the High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and President of the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, spoke on the profound historical and strategic ties between the two nations. He noted that the celebration reflects the bond between two peoples whose historical paths were forged through struggle and a shared pursuit of liberty.

Mustapha El Ktiri also pointed to powerful symbols of this shared memory, such as the Vietnam Gate inaugurated in Kenitra in 2022. This monument serves as a twin to the Morocco Gate in Ba Vi, creating a symbolic bridge that spans continents and generations.

Strengthening economic and cultural ties

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Morocco, Le Kim Quy, expressed satisfaction with the tangible progress in bilateral relations. She highlighted the increase in high-level visits and meetings in recent years as a testament to the mutual trust and commitment to a strategic partnership.

The economic relationship has shown impressive growth, with trade volumes reaching $390 million in 2025. This positive momentum is not limited to commerce; it extends to education, human exchanges, and decentralized cooperation between local authorities in both Morocco and Vietnam.

The day concluded with the inauguration of the Ho Chi Minh Library. This new resource center houses a diverse collection of books in Arabic, English, and French, donated by the President Ho Chi Minh Commemorative Site to the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters, further cementing the cultural exchange between the two nations.
