Ligue des champions: le dispositif pour la finale s’affine, il n’y aura pas de parade sur les Champs Élysées en cas de victoire

Next Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain is set to challenge Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final in Budapest. While the action unfolds thousands of kilometers away, tens of thousands of Parisian club supporters will gather in the Parc des Princes fan zone and various bars across the capital to witness the decisive match. Crucially, should PSG emerge victorious, there will be no celebratory parade down the iconic Champs-Élysées the following day.

The evening of May 30th presents a significant logistical challenge for Paris. Beyond the Champions League final, several concerts are scheduled throughout the Parisian region. This confluence of events is expected to draw between 150,000 and 200,000 people into the capital’s streets, whether for football, tennis, or music. Consequently, the Paris Police Prefecture is preparing to implement an extensive security plan to safeguard the city. The entire weekend is poised to be exceptionally demanding for internal security forces.

Starting Friday evening at 5 PM, vehicular traffic will be prohibited until Sunday morning. The security perimeter established by the Paris Police Prefecture will broadly encompass the 8th arrondissement. More stringent parking restrictions will apply to the entirety of the Champs-Élysées and select avenues, such as Avenue Montaigne. These traffic bans will also extend to other areas of the capital, including the 16th and 17th arrondissements. Pedestrian access, however, will remain permitted.

Around the Parc des Princes, where PSG is hosting an official fan zone, law enforcement agencies will deploy a standard match-day security protocol. Last year’s fan zone, situated in a secure and enclosed environment, proved to be a resounding success during the Champions League final.

After the Champs-Élysées, could the Champ de Mars host celebrations?

Mirroring last season’s preparations, authorities are meticulously planning for all potential outcomes during security meetings. In the event of a PSG victory on Saturday night, discussions are already underway with the club to organize Sunday’s celebrations. Insiders indicate that a traditional parade on the Champs-Élysées will not take place this year, a decision ultimately confirmed by the 8th arrondissement’s city hall on Sunday evening. The 2025 festivities on the world’s most beautiful avenue attracted an estimated 110,000 people. Behind the scenes, the 8th arrondissement’s municipal office had already communicated this information to local business owners.

An alternative location is now emerging as a strong possibility: the Champ de Mars, situated in the 7th arrondissement. “This option is definitely on the table,” conceded a well-informed source, preferring not to elaborate further. In fact, it has become the primary consideration for all involved parties. The Paris Police Prefecture intends to request traffic and parking prohibitions around the Champ de Mars from Saturday, May 30th, at 10 PM until Sunday, May 31st, at 8 PM, to ensure the smooth execution of a celebratory event. If this plan materializes, following last season’s iconic photo opportunity at the Arc de Triomphe, Luis Enrique’s players could pose with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop should they triumph against Arsenal. This image, a non-negligible factor, significantly enhances France’s and PSG’s international profile, remaining a crucial element of any post-victory festivities.

When contacted, Paris Saint-Germain stated that the club is currently “fully focused on preparing the events organized for May 30th, the day of the final.” They added that, at present, “no decision has been made and no announcement is planned” regarding any celebrations after Saturday night’s match in Hungary. “Should the need arise, organizational matters will be thoroughly coordinated with the relevant authorities,” the capital club affirmed.
