Paris Saint-Germain claims back-to-back Champions League titles despite lower TV ratings

Though the Paris Saint-Germain secured their second consecutive Champions League title, television audiences failed to match last year’s record-breaking numbers against Inter Milan.

The French capital’s club couldn’t replicate the 11.5 million average viewers achieved during their historic 5-0 triumph over Inter Milan last season. This time around, viewership numbers dipped significantly.

For their rematch against Arsenal in the final, PSG’s back-to-back campaign drew 6.2 million viewers on M6, with a peak of 13.5 million tuning in for the closing moments. Canal+ attracted 2.9 million spectators, resulting in over 2 million fewer viewers across free-to-air channels compared to last year’s final.

The drop in ratings can largely be attributed to scheduling conflicts with Moïse Kouamé’s third-round match at Roland-Garros, which kicked off at 4:15 PM—just hours before the Champions League final at 6 PM.

3 million viewers for Moïse Kouamé’s match

Fans faced a tough choice between supporting PSG in the Champions League final and following rising tennis star Moïse Kouamé. The 17-year-old French talent, who had hoped to play on the Suzanne-Lenglen court before switching to Roland-Garros’ main arena, drew 3 million viewers to his match—though numbers inevitably declined once the Champions League final began.

“I caught the penalty shootout—yes, I saw the worst moment,” Kouamé joked in a post-match press conference, donning his PSG jersey despite his four-set loss to Alejandro Tabilo (6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-7[9-11]). “It’s a small consolation after losing my match,” he added with a smile, showing no sign of disappointment.
