A specialized team from the Sonelgaz group has arrived in N’Djamena to begin preparations for the construction of a 40 MW electricity production plant in Chad. This major energy project follows the strategic directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which focus on expanding African cooperation and fostering robust South-South partnerships. The initiative gained momentum after the official visit of the Chadian President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to Algérie in late April.
The Algérie delegation, spearheaded by Yazid Djellouli, CEO of Sonelgaz-International, was welcomed by the Director General of Tchad-Elec. The meeting was attended by the Algérie ambassador to Chad along with various officials from the Chadian Ministry of Energy. Further highlighting the project’s importance, the delegation held high-level talks with Tahir Hamid Nguilin, Minister of State for Finance and Economy, and Passalé Kanabé Marcelin, the Chadian Minister of Water and Energy.
Technical coordination and site inspections
During their stay, the Algérie experts conducted a working session with Tchad-Elec leadership to address the technical and regulatory requirements of the project. This meeting served to establish a clear roadmap and form joint task forces to ensure seamless field coordination. The primary objective is to align all stakeholders before moving forward with detailed technical assessments of the site designated for the 40 MW facility.
The visiting delegation is tasked with evaluating existing infrastructure, studying potential connection points to the current electrical grid, and ensuring all plans meet rigorous technical standards. These preliminary studies are essential for launching construction according to the highest benchmarks of efficiency and quality.
This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of both Algérie and Chad to develop a long-term energy alliance. It also demonstrates the dedication of Sonelgaz to supporting African partners through the exchange of technical knowledge and the implementation of practical energy solutions tailored to the continent’s development needs.
