United Kingdom eyes Morocco as key strategic partner to boost trade
London seeks to double economic exchanges with Rabat in the coming years
The United Kingdom views Morocco as a land of opportunity and is actively pursuing a deeper partnership to strengthen economic ties, according to Chris Bryant, UK Minister of State for Trade.
During a recent official visit to Rabat, Bryant highlighted the potential for bilateral trade to double from its current value of £4.5 billion within the next five to seven years. This ambitious goal was discussed during meetings with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad.
The minister underscored that Morocco and the UK are exploring a strategic partnership that would extend beyond commerce. One key area of collaboration includes supporting major sporting events, particularly the 2030 FIFA World Cup, set to be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
A delegation of over fifty UK-based companies specializing in sports event management accompanied Bryant, participating in the Morocco-UK Business Forum, held on June 2 and 3, 2026. This gathering served as a platform to solidify commercial and investment opportunities between the two nations.
The visit also marked the fourth session of the Morocco-United Kingdom Association Council, a forum dedicated to deepening diplomatic and economic relations.
