UNESCO Mali supports future innovators at 16th inter-lycées excellence competition

This significant event brought together students, educators, academic leaders, and partners to champion excellence among Malian youth in the vital fields of science and innovation.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the UNESCO Office in Mali proudly participated in the awards ceremony of the 16th Inter-Lycées Excellence Competition. Hosted at the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs Abderhamane Baba Touré (ENI-ABT) and organized by its vibrant UNESCO Club, the event served as a crucial platform to promote academic distinction and foster a culture of scientific advancement and innovation among Malian youth. The gathering drew a diverse audience, including enthusiastic students, dedicated educators, esteemed academic officials, and key partners, all united by a shared commitment to nurturing future talent in Mali.

Dr. Kélétigui DAOU, the Director General of ENI-ABT, opened the ceremony by extending his heartfelt gratitude to UNESCO for its consistent engagement and invaluable contributions to education across Mali. He particularly commended the Organization’s sustained efforts to increase access for girls in critical STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, alongside its unwavering support for scientific research and innovative endeavors among young people.

The event also featured an inspiring address from the Secretary-General of the ENI-ABT UNESCO Club. They underscored the profound significance of this 16th edition in recognizing and celebrating academic merit and excellence. Furthermore, the Secretary-General highlighted the pivotal role that UNESCO Clubs play in instilling core values of citizenship, promoting peace, and advocating for sustainable development within their communities.

Mme Oumou Dicko, the Science Programs Officer, offered her congratulations to both the organizers for the successful execution of this year’s competition and to the students for their remarkable dedication. She outlined various enriching opportunities UNESCO provides to young individuals interested in research, including prestigious scholarships, invaluable mentorship programs, and invitations to participate in numerous international days observed by the Organization. Mme Dicko passionately urged students and university attendees alike to intensify their engagement in scientific and innovative disciplines, emphasizing their crucial role in contributing to the progress and development of their nation.
