Benin pursues extradition of Kemi Seba following Pretoria arrest
Following the arrest of Kemi Seba, whose birth name is Robert Gilles Stellio Capo Chichi, in Pretoria, the government of Benin has officially broken its silence. During a briefing following the Council of Ministers, spokesperson Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji displayed a composed yet firm attitude, noting that the situation is unfolding as it should.
The core allegations from the Beninese state
Moving beyond standard diplomatic responses, the administration has clarified the specific grounds for seeking the activist’s return. Authorities primarily accuse Kemi Seba of conducting subversive activities and delivering speeches that threaten the stability of republican institutions. Furthermore, his repeated public interventions are viewed as calls for popular uprising and the disruption of public peace.
There are also significant suspicions regarding his involvement with external groups aimed at compromising national security policies. His direct criticisms of state authority are seen as a deliberate attempt to weaken the country’s social fabric and national cohesion.
Formal extradition process initiated
Benin is taking an active role in the legal proceedings. Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji confirmed that both judicial and diplomatic channels are fully engaged in the effort to secure his extradition. “We are waiting for the results of international procedures so that the individual can be held accountable for his actions and statements before the Beninese justice system,” the spokesperson declared.
The goal for Porto-Novo is clear: to bring Kemi Seba back to national soil to face the serious charges related to internal stability and national security. This legal battle between the activist and his home country has now entered a pivotal stage.
