Cameroon’s udc decries alleged torture of activist jacques bertrand mang

The Democratic Union of Cameroon (UDC), led by its president Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, has vehemently denounced the alleged inhumane treatment of a citizen.

The UDC expressed profound alarm upon learning that political activist Jacques Bertrand Mang allegedly endured torture and other inhumane treatments. Through its president, the political party issued a strong condemnation of these acts, which are explicitly forbidden by the Cameroonian Constitution. “Should the reported incidents be substantiated, they would represent a severe breach of fundamental human rights and the core principles of the rule of law,” the UDC stated.

In an official statement, the political organization emphasized that no form of civic engagement or dispute can ever justify resorting to torture, violence, or any cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment. Consequently, the UDC is urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into these allegations, ensuring the physical and moral integrity of Jacques Bertrand Mang is safeguarded and his rights are fully upheld.

Jacques Bertrand Mang, recognized by the UDC for his outspoken views on social injustices, the everyday struggles of Cameroonians, and governance issues, once again finds himself at the center of public discourse. The activist reportedly suffered torture and ill-treatment within a police station in Douala on June 30, 2026. During a live broadcast initiated on his Facebook page, he pleaded with officers for his release, only to be informed that he could not leave while agitated. Despite his repeated attempts, he was prevented from exiting the police post. When he demanded immediate departure, he was instructed to wait for a superior officer to arrive.

Beyond this specific incident, Jacques Bertrand Mang has a history of being apprehended and involuntarily placed in a medical facility for psychiatric evaluation. His public statements and strong positions have also led to previous complaints filed with judicial authorities. Through his live streams and other video content shared publicly on social media, his activism prominently targets members of the police, gendarmerie, customs, municipal police, government officials, various political figures, and even celebrities. I learned that he was subsequently placed in police custody.
