This targeted intervention successfully dismantled a notorious ghetto, which had been secretly harboring a network for trafficking Indian hemp (cannabis). Initial findings from the investigation reveal that this location served as both a strategic transit point and a consumption hub for users.
The raid resulted in the apprehension of several individuals on site and the seizure of substantial equipment directly linked to the illicit trade. Investigations are actively continuing to identify and arrest all associated branches and individuals involved in this criminal enterprise.
A network protected by a soldier?
The case has taken a particularly serious turn with the Republican Police’s active search for a Béninese armed forces officer. Known by the nickname “Alòtrò” (a reference to a gecko), this military personnel is the central focus of investigators, who suspect him of direct complicity with the drug trafficking networks.
According to intelligence gathered by security services, the soldier was not frequenting the ghetto for personal consumption. Instead, he had established a sophisticated protection racket, regularly extorting payments from the dealers.
In exchange for these illicit commissions, the military officer allegedly guaranteed them supposed protection and immunity from potential law enforcement raids, thereby betraying his solemn oath to the nation.
