Dakar mayor abass fall addresses indiscipline following prime minister sonko’s early exit
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko made an early departure from the patriotic walking tour in Dakar, an event organized by Mayor Abass Fall on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The themed procession, titled “the march towards 2029,” saw an unexpected turn of events.
Reports from numerous attendees indicated that the head of government was unable to complete the walk alongside other participants. This was attributed to a significant breakdown of order and an overwhelming crowd presence observed at the venue.
Dakar Mayor Abass Fall expressed profound regret over the situation, openly criticizing the lack of discipline displayed by some participants during the event.
“We are facing a genuine issue,” Mayor Fall stated. “It is unacceptable to invite a high-ranking official here only for participants to behave without discipline. This is not right. We gathered for a walk, so why can’t people maintain order? He ultimately had to leave because of this.”
When a journalist inquired about the strong affection supporters showed for Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, Abass Fall responded with a pointed remark: “Affection must be accompanied by intelligence. One needs to be intelligent. This truly presents a significant problem!”
