Diomaye président coalition slams ousmane sonko’s remarks on state institutions

The Diomaye Président coalition has sharply criticized recent statements made by Ousmane Sonko during the inauguration of the Pastef headquarters in Mbacké. Coalition leaders condemned the remarks as disrespectful to the Head of State and a departure from the accountability expected of high-ranking officials.

Bassirou Dieng, a prominent figure within the coalition, emphasized that such comments undermine the principles of a lawful state. “In a democracy governed by the rule of law, it is unacceptable for a National Assembly President to make derogatory remarks about the Head of State,” he stated in an interview. He highlighted the widespread backlash on social media and in the press, noting that public opinion overwhelmingly rejected Sonko’s statements.

Bassirou Dieng further warned that the presidential coalition will no longer tolerate repeated attacks on state institutions. “The Diomaye Président coalition will respond decisively. Turning a blind eye to disrespectful remarks targeting the Republic’s leadership and key state authorities is no longer an option,” he declared. The coalition’s strong stance follows Sonko’s latest public statements, which reignited political tensions and drew sharp reactions from the ruling majority.
