FC Nantes handed empty stadium ban after pitch invasion

FC Nantes slapped with closed-door fixture after pitch invasion during Ligue 1 finale

FC Nantes to play behind closed doors

French football’s disciplinary board has delivered a firm closed-door verdict for Nantes’ upcoming Ligue 1 home fixture, coupled with a two-match ban for the Loire stand, following chaotic scenes during last weekend’s final league encounter against Toulouse.

The French Football League’s disciplinary commission ruled out any point deduction for FC Nantes as it begins its Ligue 2 campaign. The club will face a closed-door match at the Stade de la Beaujoire, with the Loire stand shuttered for two additional fixtures. The commission also confirmed the 0-0 scoreline recorded at the moment the referee halted the match against Toulouse on May 17th.

Before the final whistle in Nantes’ 34th and decisive Ligue 1 fixture, disgruntled home supporters stormed the pitch, protesting their team’s relegation to Ligue 2. The referee subsequently called off the game after the pitch invasion.
