French national day celebration strengthens Chad ties in N’Djamena
The French National Day was marked with grandeur in N’Djamena, where diplomats and key figures gathered to honor the enduring bond between France and Chad.
A night of unity and reflection
The French embassy in Chad hosted a memorable evening on July 14, 2026, at the French residence in N’Djamena. The occasion brought together Ambassador Éric Gérard, the Deputy Secretary-General of Chad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, military leaders, diplomatic envoys, French expatriates, government officials, private sector representatives, and civil society leaders.
As the national anthems of both nations echoed through the venue, guests paid tribute to the significance of the date. Ambassador Gérard took the floor, emphasizing the deep historical and cultural ties uniting France and Chad. He highlighted the values of liberty, equality, and fraternity—cornerstones of the French Republic—while celebrating the shared journey of both nations.
Reaffirming a partnership built on trust
In a heartfelt address, Éric Gérard underscored the strength of Franco-Chadian relations, forged over decades of collaboration. He paid tribute to veterans present at the event, acknowledging their contributions to the enduring friendship between the two countries. « Our alliance is not static; it grows stronger each day through mutual respect, honesty, and sincerity, » he remarked.
The ambassador also spotlighted the active cooperation between the two nations, with 39 ongoing projects spanning critical sectors such as water supply, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment initiatives. He reflected on the recent meeting between the heads of state of France and Chad on January 29, which set the stage for renewed collaboration. Another milestone, he noted, was the Africa-France Summit in Nairobi, where Chad joined 48 other African nations in charting a path for future partnerships.
Gérard reiterated France’s commitment to supporting Chad’s development through the « Tchad Connexion 2030 » national development plan, a vision aimed at transforming the country’s future.
The evening concluded on a note of unity, with the ambassador expressing gratitude to all attendees for their role in strengthening the Franco-Chadian friendship.
