Gabon launches audit of internal debt to private businesses
During the closing ceremony of the Gabon Economic Forum (GEF), Alain‑Claude Kouakoua, president of the Federation of Gabonese Enterprises (FEG), drew significant attention to the nation’s most sensitive economic issue: the substantial debt owed by the State to private companies.
While this debt has been estimated at 4,340 billion FCFA for several years, Mr. Kouakoua suggested it was likely overstated. According to the FEG leader, not all claims submitted warrant retention, as some files are questionable, lacking sufficient or regular documentation.
