Gabon’s vice president attends Madagascar’s independence celebration, strengthening bilateral ties
Representing Head of State Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Gabon’s Vice President of the Government (VPG), Hermann Immongault, participated in Madagascar’s 66th independence anniversary celebrations on June 26 in Antananarivo. Alongside various other delegation heads, Mr. Immongault witnessed the impressive military parade at Mahamasina stadium, a display that honored the dedication, patriotism, and ongoing modernization of the Malagasy Armed Forces. The commemorative event was notably themed around “reform for Madagascar’s development.”
The Vice President’s attendance unequivocally signals the robust and excellent relations between the Gabonese and Malagasy nations. It powerfully underscores the mutual desire of Libreville and Antananarivo to invigorate their bilateral exchanges. This diplomatic gesture follows directly from the recent visit of Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, President of the Malagasy Refoundation, to Libreville from June 5 to 7. A highlight of that visit was a significant one-on-one meeting with his Gabonese counterpart, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, held at the Palais du Bord de mer. Following their discussion, Colonel Randrianirina had expressed his keen interest in drawing inspiration from Gabon’s transitional process, while also commending the achievements made during this period.
In essence, by dispatching the coordinator of governmental action to these pivotal celebrations, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema emphatically reiterates Gabon’s strategic commitment to strengthening its bond with the ‘Great Island,’ Madagascar. This intensification of high-level dialogue between the two nations is poised to inaugurate a fresh era of cooperation, holding significant promise across political, diplomatic, cultural, and economic development spheres.
