Diplomatic courtesy in Douala: German Ambassador meets Cameroon’s Archbishop

Christian Sedat, Germany’s Ambassador to Cameroon, paid a courtesy visit to Archbishop Samuel Kleda, Metropolitan Archbishop of Douala, on Monday, June 30, 2026. The meeting, held at the episcopal residence of the Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral, focused on the recent visit of Pope Leo XIV to Cameroon.

The German diplomat was welcomed by the Archbishop, and the two engaged in discussions before touring the cathedral grounds. Under the guidance of the Archdiocese’s chancellor, the Ambassador also visited the historic cathedral, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. The German Embassy in Cameroon later highlighted the significance of this courtesy call on its official channels.

Strengthening ties: Germany, Cameroon, and the Catholic Church

The German Embassy in Cameroon shared excerpts from the meeting, stating: “During his visit to Douala, Ambassador Christian Sedat had the honor of meeting His Excellency Archbishop Samuel Kleda. The two engaged in an open and enriching exchange on the role of religious actors in society, particularly in light of the historic papal visit to Cameroon. This meeting also underscores the strong ties uniting Germany, Cameroon, and the Catholic Church. Germany remains present on the ground, listening and engaging in dialogue across the country.”
