This submission has been drafted in preparation for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Niger, slated for April and May 2026. Within this document, Amnesty International provides an assessment of how recommendations from the previous review cycle have been applied, with a particular focus on issues such as unlawful arrests, arbitrary detentions, and the safety of human rights defenders and media professionals.

Furthermore, the report analyzes the existing national legal structures that impact the right to free speech and the operational environment for the press in Niger.
