LFP rejects Olympique Lyonnais’ request to postpone opening Ligue 1 fixture

Olympique Lyonnais’ request to reschedule their opening Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse on August 22, 2026, has been firmly rejected by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP). The Lyon club had sought the postponement due to the potential necessity of competing in a Champions League playoff round, contingent on their success in the third preliminary stage of Europe’s premier club competition.

The inaugural weekend of Ligue 1 matches is slated to kick off between August 21 and 23, 2026. Olympique Lyonnais, with an away fixture scheduled against Toulouse, had formally submitted their appeal for a calendar adjustment to accommodate their European ambitions.
