An unexpected event unfolded recently in Cité Keur Gorgui, during a political bureau meeting of the PASTEF party, hosted at the residence of its prominent leader, Ousmane Sonko.

As the high-level gathering progressed and journalists remained stationed outside, Mamadou Goumbala arrived on the scene, an uninvited figure. His presence instantly drew significant attention from those gathered near the property.

Addressing the assembled media, Goumbala delivered a powerful political statement, advocating for a swift de-escalation of what he perceives as growing tensions between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko.

He emphasized that any disagreements among the nation’s top leadership should not overshadow the fundamental expectations of the Senegalese populace. Goumbala stressed the critical importance for these key political figures to prioritize the daily concerns of citizens, particularly focusing on pressing social issues and economic challenges.

“The disputes at the highest levels of government must cease,” he declared to reporters. “We elected these leaders to alleviate the hardships faced by Senegalese citizens, not for mere political maneuvering.”

Furthermore, Mamadou Goumbala strongly urged both prominent figures to maintain their political understanding, asserting that their collective unity is vital for the stability and effectiveness of public action in Senegal. He underscored that the Senegalese people primarily expect tangible outcomes, not internal political confrontations.

Continuing his appeal, he suggested that the internal strains witnessed within the ruling majority could, in his view, warrant the establishment of broader consultation frameworks.
