Maroc and France advance strategic partnership in Rabat high-level talks

Morocco and France deepen ties at Rabat high-level summit

Rabat is hosting the fifteenth session of the Morocco-France high-level meeting this Thursday, bringing together top officials from both nations to strengthen their strategic alliance. The landmark gathering underscores the depth of collaboration between the two countries, framed within their exceptional partnership, as highlighted by a joint statement from Moroccan authorities.

Speaking in Rabat, French Ambassador Philippe Lalliot emphasized the tangible progress being made in Morocco, from Rabat to Casablanca, Tanger, Marrakech, and Laâyoune. «Across these cities, we are not just discussing the future—we are actively building it, day by day,» he remarked during an event attended by Mohamed Saad Berrada, Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, who represented the government.

The ambassador’s statements came against the backdrop of France’s unwavering support for Morocco, including President Emmanuel Macron’s July 2024 letter to King Mohammed VI. In that correspondence, Macron reaffirmed France’s position that «Morocco’s future, including the Sahara issue, is intrinsically tied to the sovereignty of the Kingdom.»

Highlighting economic ties, Ambassador Lalliot noted that France remains Morocco’s leading foreign investor and employer. He pointed out that French companies have played a pivotal role in Morocco’s industrial growth for over a decade, contributing to sectors that now define the country’s economic landscape.

The discussion also addressed pressing global challenges and future-oriented priorities. The ambassador outlined three key areas of focus: joint solutions for international security threats, strategic economic sectors that will shape tomorrow’s economies, and strengthening cultural and societal bonds—particularly among the youth, who represent the future of Franco-Moroccan relations.
