Nice faces Saint-Étienne in closed-doors playoff after Nice’s Ligue 1 sanctions
The disciplinary committee of France’s professional football league (LFP) has finalized sanctions against OGC Nice following incidents during the team’s last Ligue 1 match against Metz (0-0). The Aiglons will face Saint-Étienne in the Ligue 1 vs Ligue 2 playoff return leg behind closed doors.
As expected, the decision means Nice’s supporters will be unable to attend the decisive second leg of the promotion/relegation playoff at the Allianz Riviera on Friday, May 29, at 20:45. The first leg will take place on Tuesday, May 26, at Geoffroy-Guichard.
The LFP’s disciplinary board imposed a two-match closed-doors sanction on Nice, along with a suspended one-match stadium closure. The incidents on Sunday, May 17, included pitch invasions by Nice ultras and the use of pyrotechnics, leading to significant damage at full-time.
