The action comes in response to controversial statements made by Sonko, specifically his assertion that “dirty money has entered Touba.”

These contentious remarks were uttered during the inauguration ceremony for the new headquarters of his party, Pastef, within the holy city. The plaintiffs contend that Sonko’s declarations severely undermine the honor and public image of Touba, a significant spiritual center in Senegal.
