PASTEF sets June dates for key party events in Senegal

Senegal’s PASTEF party has announced two pivotal political gatherings slated for June 2026, marking significant steps in its organizational evolution and leadership consolidation. Speaking after a national unity march in Dakar, party spokesperson Abass Fall revealed the congress will convene on June 6, where delegates will elect the party’s new president.

The following day, June 7, PASTEF will officially nominate Ousmane Sonko—the party’s prominent leader and current head of government—as its presidential candidate. These milestones come amid heightened discussions about internal party governance and the strategic positioning of its top-tier leadership.

Observers view these events as critical junctures for PASTEF, particularly in reinforcing its political influence at a time when national debates about party structure and state leadership are intensifying. The timing of these developments suggests a deliberate effort to solidify Sonko’s role while addressing internal dynamics within the party.
