Pedri’s admiration for Julian Alvarez sparks Barcelona transfer talk amidst PSG interest
Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly reignited its pursuit of Julian Alvarez, a target they previously eyed two years ago before his move from Manchester City to Atlético Madrid. However, it now appears FC Barcelona could thwart PSG’s ambitions, a development that would evidently please Barcelona midfielder Pedri.

The saga surrounding Julian Alvarez has been a prominent storyline since the summer transfer window officially commenced on June 15, set to close on September 1. The 26-year-old Argentine international is currently competing in his second World Cup with Argentina on the American continent. Despite being contractually bound to Atlético Madrid until 2030, the forward for the Colchoneros reportedly has no intention of returning to the Spanish capital once the curtain falls on the 2026 World Cup.
“I believe a transfer is what’s best for everyone”
On Monday, Argentina secured its spot in the round of 16 for the 2026 World Cup after a 2-0 victory over Austria. In the mixed zone following the match, Julian Alvarez chose to publicly convey his desire for a move, hinting at a preference for FC Barcelona. He stated, “This isn’t the ideal moment to discuss it, but I also cannot conceal my feelings; I strive to be an honest person. I’ve engaged in discussions with the individuals at Atlético Madrid, and I genuinely believe that a transfer would be the most beneficial outcome for all parties involved. I aspire to fulfill my dream.”
“I hope this transfer can materialize, and if so, all the better”
This revelation presents an unwelcome challenge for PSG, who, much like in the summer of 2024 before his switch to Atlético Madrid, have continued to monitor the situation of the Rojiblanco striker. Adding to the intrigue, FC Barcelona appears to be actively welcoming Julian Alvarez. This is evident from comments made by Pedri during his interview with RTVE. Regarding a potential Julian Alvarez transfer to FC Barcelona, Pedri remarked, “I believe many factors would need to align for that to happen. I don’t wish to meddle in the club’s affairs, nor those of any player. However, it is true that I deeply admire Julian as a player, and I have consistently expressed my desire for the finest talents to play for Barça. I sincerely hope this transfer can materialize, and if it does, then all the better.” The FC Barcelona midfielder has unequivocally set the stage; the question now is whether Paris Saint-Germain will respond publicly or behind the scenes to tip the balance in their favor in the race to sign Alvarez.
