Psg champions league victory sparks clashes and arrests across France
Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League triumph triggers nationwide unrest
The celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory descended into chaos as violent clashes erupted in major French cities, resulting in hundreds of arrests and multiple injuries.
This report is based on direct coverage of the events.
Tensions flared immediately after the final whistle. On the Champs-Élysées, a group of youths targeted a bus shelter, prompting police intervention. Near the Parc des Princes, officers faced volleys of fireworks, responding with tear gas as the first arrests were made. Later that evening, a fleet of shared bicycles was set ablaze, escalating tensions between demonstrators and law enforcement.
The Périphérique (Paris ring road) became a battleground, blocked by motorcycles and pedestrians. A 24-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a concrete barrier erected to halt traffic. By dawn, a 17-year-old had been stabbed multiple times and remained in critical condition.
57 officers injured in nationwide disturbances
The following morning, France’s Interior Minister confirmed that 57 police and gendarmerie officers had been injured across the country. “We recorded an alarming increase in projectiles and fireworks directed at security forces. The figures will be officially verified, but there’s no doubt this was a deliberate escalation against law enforcement,” the minister stated. Images from the 8th arrondissement of Paris showed an individual firing fireworks in rapid succession at police.
Disturbances were reported in 15 French cities, including Grenoble, where looting and vandalism targeted local businesses. As of Sunday morning, authorities had detained 780 individuals, with 457 still in custody.
