Senegal political tensions: adviser denies secret pact claims
Just 48 hours before the PASTEF party congress, Aldiouma Sow, Advisor to the President of Senegal, took a firm stand against recent remarks by Ousmane Sonko. In a bold statement, he defended President Bassirou Diomaye Faye against allegations of striking a “secret pact” during detention at Cap Manuel.
Sow emphasized that the Head of State never engaged in any clandestine agreements while in custody. He stressed that Bassirou Diomaye Faye remained steadfast in his political convictions throughout the 2024 transition process, upholding both his principles and public commitments.
The presidential advisor also dismissed claims that the president participated in any scheme to undermine Senegalese voters’ sovereignty. “He never supported any attempt to hijack the people’s right to freely elect their leader,” Sow declared.
He further elaborated on the President’s vision of political dialogue, describing it not as a tactical maneuver but as a core value guiding institutional decisions. For Bassirou Diomaye Faye, dialogue represents a fundamental principle—not a situational tool to manipulate power dynamics.
This intervention comes amid growing speculation within the PASTEF majority and among its supporters ahead of the highly anticipated party congress. Aldiouma Sow’s remarks reignite discussions about the relationship between Senegal’s top leadership figures and the future direction of the government.
