Senegal’s political tensions: Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko face cohabitation challenges

After only two years at the helm, the Diomaye Faye-Ousmane Sonko tandem has dissolved. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has removed Ousmane Sonko from the Prime Minister’s position, reshuffling the political landscape. Sonko now presides over the National Assembly and was overwhelmingly reelected as leader of the Pastef, the majority party in Parliament that remains excluded from the government. How did this rupture come about? Will the president and the assembly leader manage to coexist despite their differences? And more importantly, could these political frictions overshadow the pressing needs of Senegalese citizens?
