Tchad and China deepen cultural bonds through Chinese language contest
The national finals of the Chinese language competition in Tchad highlight six years of successful academic and cultural cooperation through the Confucius Institute, fostering stronger ties between the two nations.
Celebrating academic excellence and cultural exchange
The national finals of the Bridge to Chinese language competition unfolded at the University of Human Sciences of Mother-Child in N’Djamena, marking another milestone in Tchad-China educational collaboration. Organized jointly by the Chinese Embassy in Tchad and the Confucius Institute at the University of N’Djamena, this year’s event showcased the growing linguistic talents among Tchadian students while strengthening the cultural bridge between the two nations.
University leadership highlights transformative impact
Mahamat Saleh Daoussa Haggar, President of the University of N’Djamena, emphasized that this competition transcends mere academic achievement. Speaking at the event, he described it as “a symbol of a changing world” and “a rising generation taking shape”. The competition, he noted, reflects Tchad’s expanding global engagement through language acquisition and intercultural dialogue.
The President paid tribute to the youth, stressing that education investments today shape tomorrow’s peace, stability, and development. He incorporated traditional Chinese proverbs to underscore the importance of knowledge transmission and forward-looking vision.
Confucius Institute marks six years of cultural diplomacy
The 2026 edition coincides with the sixth anniversary of the Confucius Institute at the University of N’Djamena—a milestone that has redefined academic engagement between the two countries. What began as a language center has evolved into a vibrant hub of cultural exchange, intellectual growth, and people-to-people connection. The institute now serves as a gateway to global opportunities for Tchadian students.
Diplomatic vision for future cooperation
Addressing the gathering, Wang Xining, China’s Ambassador to Tchad, framed the competition as more than a linguistic challenge. He described the “Bridge to Chinese” theme as a metaphor for building human and cultural connections between Tchad and China.
The Ambassador underscored the importance of academic exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in higher education and youth development. He praised the scholarships, exchange programs, and institutional support that have enabled Tchadian students to thrive in their Chinese language pursuits.
Learning a new language is not just about mastering vocabulary or cultural norms—it’s about constructing bridges between civilizations. It prepares a generation capable of collaborating in an increasingly interconnected world, he stated.
Wang Xining also acknowledged the dedication of university leaders, faculty, and students. He encouraged young participants to view Chinese language acquisition as a gateway to personal and professional growth, emphasizing how linguistic skills empower them to become ambassadors of Tchad-China friendship.
A shared future through cultural and economic alignment
Beyond the classroom, both governments are aligning strategic visions to deepen cooperation. Current initiatives aim to integrate the 15th Five-Year Plan of China with Tchad’s Tchad Connexion 2030 strategy. This alignment seeks to create new hubs of practical collaboration and accelerate modernization for the benefit of both peoples.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to educational and cultural exchange, reinforcing Tchad and China’s shared journey toward mutual understanding and sustainable development.
