WAPCO Niger’s “healthy communities” program: fostering well-being across pipeline regions
WAPCO (Niger), in partnership with the local livestock authority, recently concluded a successful cattle vaccination and deworming campaign within the Zinder region. This vital initiative reached seven pastoral settlements, including N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker, providing essential veterinary services to over 10,000 animals. This achievement signifies the successful completion of the initial phase of WAPCO (Niger)’s “Healthy Communities” public interest activities, which have now extended their beneficial reach to all areas along the pipeline’s path.
To further enhance the health management capabilities of local populations, WAPCO (Niger) has actively leveraged its internal medical resources. Utilizing its onsite medical personnel and fundamental medicines, the company launched two pioneering free community medical consultation projects in early 2025, strategically located near pumping stations 5 and 6. These pilot programs were met with enthusiastic approval from residents. Building on this success, a comprehensive needs assessment was conducted, leading to the official launch of the first phase of the “Healthy Communities” program in August 2025. To date, WAPCO (Niger) has facilitated seven free community medical consultations, delivering vital healthcare services to 1,249 local individuals, and has also generously donated a tricycle ambulance to a local community health center.
During these initial free consultations, the company’s team recognized that livestock represents a crucial source of income and livelihood for numerous local families, and that herders had a pressing need for animal healthcare. Responding directly to these community concerns, WAPCO (Niger) broadened the scope of its “Healthy Communities” endeavors. Collaborating with local livestock agencies and other relevant bodies, WAPCO (Niger) delivered vaccination and deworming services to more than 20,000 animals across three significant pastoral gathering points situated along the pipeline corridor, thereby assisting herders in safeguarding their vital productive assets.

As a socially conscious enterprise, WAPCO (Niger) has consistently upheld a philosophy of cooperative engagement built on mutual benefit and collective advancement since its inception. While ensuring the secure and stable operation of the pipeline, the company places significant emphasis on fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities. WAPCO (Niger) continuously champions the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), undertakes philanthropic donations, and provides crucial assistance to local communities. It actively contributes to improving local livelihoods and fostering social progress, thereby consistently enhancing the population’s “sense of gain” and cultivating an external environment conducive to the pipeline’s secure operation.
Looking ahead, WAPCO (Niger) is committed to further refining its community needs assessments to precisely address the expectations of populations residing near the pipeline. The company will steadily broaden the scope of its public interest initiatives, ensuring that a greater number of residents can share in the benefits of development. While guaranteeing the safe and efficient flow of this vital energy artery, WAPCO (Niger) will consistently collaborate with the community, taking tangible steps to foster improved livelihoods and promote reciprocal growth and shared prosperity for both WAPCO (Niger) and the communities it serves.
