CEP 2026: government ensures school meals for exam candidates
As the Certificat d’Études Primaires (CEP) exams approach, the Bénin government has implemented a strategic measure to support young students. In an official memo, Salimane Karimou, Minister of Pre-Primary and Primary Education, has instructed that school canteens remain operational during the exam period, running from June 1 to June 4, 2026.
Continuity for schools already in the program
This directive applies exclusively to schools already participating in the Programme National d’Alimentation Scolaire Intégré (PNASI). For these institutions, the midday break will not mean a return home or a search for food; instead, students will receive a nutritious, hot meal on-site, just as they do throughout the school year.
Safeguarding student performance during critical exams
Salimane Karimou emphasizes the importance of maintaining this service, stating that interrupting meal programs during the most pivotal academic period could have detrimental effects. In his communication to departmental directors, he highlights:
« For many CEP candidates, these meals have been a daily staple since the beginning of their schooling. Withholding them during the exam period could negatively impact their performance and concentration. »
The goal is to prevent any physiological stress or hunger-induced distraction that might hinder students during the afternoon exam sessions.
Rigorous logistics for nationwide implementation
Ensuring canteen services across the entire country requires meticulous coordination. Departmental directors have been tasked with confirming that food supplies are stocked and service providers are fully operational throughout the four-day exam period. This decision underscores the canteen’s role not just as a social service, but as a vital tool for academic success.
By guaranteeing stable nutrition, the ministry aims to help students approach their exams with clarity of mind and sustained energy.
What parents need to know
Parents of students in affected schools can rest assured that the canteen service will remain unchanged until the final exam papers are submitted on June 4, 2026.
