Gabon chosen by MIT for major digital innovation forum, a boost to Oligui Nguema’s vision
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions, will hold a major international event in Libreville in the coming months, focused on digital innovation and entrepreneurship. This announcement underscores the strategy led by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and implemented by Digital Economy Minister Mark-Alexandre Doumba.
Gabon continues its rise on Africa’s digital map. Through its Centre for Prosperity and Entrepreneurship, MIT has announced the organization of an international forum at the Libreville Congress Palace dedicated to innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.
International recognition of ongoing reforms
For Dina Sheriff, Executive Director of the MIT Centre, Gabon now stands among African countries that have strategically chosen to diversify their economies through the digitalization of public services, payments, and the business environment.
This recognition comes less than two years after President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema came to power, with a stated ambition to make digital technology a key driver of economic diversification and job creation for young people.
Mark-Alexandre Doumba leading the charge
Under the impulse of the Minister of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation, several structural reforms have been adopted. These include the law on national preference in digitalization contracts, the startup status, the ordinance on digital payments, and the one on electronic archiving.
MIT’s announcement thus appears as much more than a simple event. It sends a strong signal to international investors and confirms Gabon’s ambition to become a leading digital hub in Central Africa.
