Gabon secures $920 million bond issuance to boost economic recovery

The Gabonese government has successfully returned to international financial markets with a $920 million bond issuance, equivalent to over 526 billion CFA francs. This strategic move, announced by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, underscores the country’s commitment to securing sustainable financing for its economic transformation.

The bond issuance features a three-year grace period on repayments, starting in 2029, with a final maturity in 2033. The net proceeds will primarily fund state investment projects and settle outstanding arrears, aligning with the revised 2026 budget strategy.

Achieved after intensive negotiations with leading global institutional investors, this transaction reflects Gabon’s renewed credibility in international markets. The oversubscription of the bond highlights strong investor confidence in the government’s reform agenda and the National Growth and Development Plan 2026-2030 (PNCD).
