Liverpool turns to Bradley Barcola after Yan Diomande chooses PSG
Liverpool have been forced to adjust their summer transfer plans after primary target Yan Diomande made clear his desire to join Paris Saint-Germain. The Reds are now focusing on Bradley Barcola as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Diomande leans toward the Parc des Princes
Liverpool have dropped their pursuit of RB Leipzig teenager Diomande. The 19-year-old winger, who impressed at the World Cup, is now expected to sign for the Ligue 1 champions. PSG are highly confident of finalising a deal with Leipzig quickly. The Bundesliga club initially demanded a huge fee, which cooled Liverpool’s interest as they refused to exceed their own valuation of the young talent.
Barcola emerges as Liverpool’s main option
With Diomande heading to France, Liverpool have turned their attention to Barcola. The 23-year-old forward sits high on Anfield’s recruitment shortlist. His profile matches what the club is looking for in a long-term successor to Salah, especially after the successful signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
Barcola’s situation at PSG is complex. Though still highly rated, his future is uncertain due to frustration over being left out of the biggest matches. In particular, the French international was disappointed not to start in PSG’s recent Champions League final victory over Arsenal, raising questions about his long-term prospects under Luis Enrique.
Exit on the horizon for Barcola
PSG are not actively looking to sell Barcola but may be forced to offload him this summer. With only two years left on his contract, this is the last chance for the Parisian club to fetch a significant fee if the winger refuses to extend. The club will not let him go cheaply but are unlikely to block a move if a satisfactory offer arrives.
Arsenal have been linked but appear focused on other targets for now. As the transfer window heats up, Liverpool look the most determined to test PSG’s resolve, especially if Barcola returns from international duty still concerned about his role in the team.
Barcola’s trophy-laden PSG career
Signed by PSG in the summer of 2023 for €45 million, Barcola has since made 152 appearances for the Parisians in all competitions. The attacker has scored 39 goals and provided 37 assists. His trophy cabinet at PSG boasts twelve titles, including two Champions League crowns and three Ligue 1 championships.
During the World Cup group stage, he scored against Senegal and provided an assist against Norway while representing France.
