Morocco and spain celebrate strong security partnership with top honors in Rabat

In Rabat on Thursday, Abdellatif Hammouchi, who serves as the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, welcomed a high-level Spanish Civil Guard delegation. The contingent was led by Major General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, the head of Intelligence Direction, during an official mission to Morocco.

This significant meeting underscores the exceptional level of security collaboration between Moroccan and Spanish services, which stands as a benchmark in counter-terrorism efforts and the fight against cross-border crime.

Several leading officials from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) and the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) were awarded prestigious Spanish decorations. These honors, granted by decree of the Spanish Minister of Interior, recognize their instrumental role in enhancing operational cooperation and technical assistance between the two nations.

The distinctions serve as compelling evidence of the profound strategic alliance between Morocco and Spain, demonstrating Madrid’s acknowledgment of the professionalism exhibited by Moroccan security officials in confronting shared threats.

During the ceremony, Major General Peláez Piñeiro lauded Morocco as an “indispensable strategic partner” in the global fight against terrorism and organized crime. He specifically praised the advanced bilateral security cooperation in the face of escalating regional and international challenges.

These recent accolades follow the awarding of the Grand-Cross of Merit of the Spanish Civil Guard, the highest distinction, to Abdellatif Hammouchi in November 2025. Hammouchi had previously received the Cross of Police Merit with Red Distinction in 2014, honoring his substantial contributions to the exemplary security partnership between Morocco and Spain.
