N’Djamena: a major security sweep nets 252 arrests in anti-crime drive
A comprehensive security operation in N’Djamena resulted in 252 arrests and the confiscation of illicit substances, significantly bolstering the fight against crime in the Chadian capital.
A joint security commission initiated a widespread sweep on Saturday, August 1, 2026, targeting several areas notorious for criminal activity across N’Djamena. This extensive intervention, which brought together various law enforcement agencies and security units, including the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad (GNNT), the National Gendarmerie, the National Police, the Judicial Police, and specialized services, led to the apprehension of 252 individuals and the confiscation of numerous illicit items and substances.
The operation specifically concentrated on districts such as Mandjakoli in the 5th arrondissement, Roma, Bildo, and Katanga in the 2nd arrondissement, as well as Colombie and other problematic neighborhoods within the Chadian capital.
Hachim Haroum Deby, the Director of Public Security, confirmed that the sweep resulted in the arrest of numerous individuals involved in the sale and consumption of various narcotics. Among the contraband seized were drugs commonly known as «Colorado» and «Bongo,» alongside quantities of adulterated alcohol.
The mission was carried out under the direct oversight of the Director General of the National Gendarmerie, who also serves as the Deputy President of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. Additionally, the 1st Deputy Police General Controller and the 2nd Deputy Commander of the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad (GNNT) were actively involved in the execution of the operation.
Following the intervention, all 252 apprehended individuals were presented to the press. Security forces also displayed a range of seized objects, which included weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.
General Ali Ahmat Aghabache, the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, was subsequently briefed on the complete findings and outcomes of the operation.
This significant action forms part of ongoing efforts by internal security forces to enhance citizen safety, uphold public order, and combat all manifestations of crime, particularly the trafficking and consumption of illegal substances throughout the capital.
