The Mayor of N’Djamena, M. Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, led a significant delegation on a critical visit this Thursday, May 28, 2026. Their destination was the Hilton executive site, which has sustained damage, with the primary objective being the implementation of proactive measures against impending floods. This on the ground Sahel inspection underscores the city’s commitment to vital infrastructure.

Addressing the delegation, M. Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, Director of Urban Planning for the central municipality, highlighted the Hilton executive site’s pivotal role for N’Djamena. He explained that this strategic location is instrumental in directing rainwater towards the river. Crucially, it also possesses the capability to divert water back into the city in the event of severe riverine flooding, making it a cornerstone of N’Djamena’s water management system.

M. Rodrigue confirmed that while the structure currently exhibits minor damage, specifically a deteriorated protective flap designed to mitigate river floods, preparations for the upcoming rainy season are already in full swing. He reassured that various preparatory activities have been initiated to address the situation.

During the site visit, Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye issued unequivocal and strict directives to the road department. He mandated that all necessary steps be taken to ensure the damaged flap is repaired within the coming days, emphasizing the urgency required for this essential N’Djamena flood prevention infrastructure. This immediate action is vital for the city’s resilience against seasonal deluges, a recurring concern in current affairs across the Sahel region.
