France and Morocco are on the verge of redefining their long-standing partnership through a groundbreaking bilateral treaty. The agreement aims to establish a robust, forward-looking framework for cooperation that aligns with the evolving geopolitical and economic landscape of the coming years.

The initiative was unveiled by French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu during a high-level meeting in Rabat, where he led a delegation of twelve ministers for discussions with their Moroccan counterparts. This landmark treaty will be the first of its kind that France negotiates with a nation outside the European Union, signaling its strategic importance.

In his address, Lecornu emphasized the treaty’s ambition: “This agreement is not merely a symbolic gesture of friendship. The enhanced collaboration will span industries such as manufacturing, renewable energy, infrastructure, defense, and agriculture, while also fostering cultural and educational exchanges. Mobility programs for entrepreneurs, researchers, and students are among the focal points, aiming to strengthen people-to-people connections.

Security remains a cornerstone of the partnership. Lecornu highlighted the robust cooperation between Moroccan and French agencies in combating terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and irregular migration. A comprehensive security accord is in the works to solidify this joint effort.

On the geopolitical front, France reaffirmed its unwavering stance on the Sahara issue, describing it as an “inalienable” position. The French government has pledged to uphold this stance, ensuring it continues to shape bilateral relations with Morocco.
