In his farewell address, the outgoing President of Benin expressed deep gratitude to the nation’s people for the “demanding path we have dared to walk together over the past decade,” highlighting the challenges overcome and reforms implemented to strengthen the state and advance socioeconomic development.

He emphasized:

“My fellow citizens,

This Sunday, May 24, 2026, Mr. Romuald Wadagni will be sworn in as the newly elected President, officially taking office to lead our nation toward greater progress and collective and individual well-being.

At this pivotal moment, I extend my sincere wishes for his success in the responsibilities he will undertake over the next seven years.

As I prepare to leave office, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to you all. I am immensely proud of the journey we have undertaken together—a journey filled with challenges, reforms, and major projects aimed at reinforcing our nation and aligning public action with its socioeconomic growth.

The path was not always easy. Often, it was fraught with obstacles, but it is precisely these challenges that have shaped our resilience and strengthened our determination.

Today, we can see, alongside the rest of the world which admires our progress, that we have come a long way. Our efforts and sacrifices are bearing fruit. This success is the result of the collective commitment of all Beninese—those in cities, rural areas, and the diaspora, young and old alike.

Serving as the leader of this remarkable journey has been an immense honor. My gratitude to Benin and to each of you is boundless.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable role of a remarkable woman who accompanied me with unwavering affection and patience, whose guidance was instrumental in my journey. I refer to Mrs. Claudine Gbénagnon Kpoviessi, spouse of Talon, whom I thank from the bottom of my heart.

I also extend my appreciation to all those who surrounded me with love, friendship, and support—each contributing to my ability to give my best.

As I hand over the reins to President Romuald Wadagni, I am confident that under his leadership, our nation will continue to make significant strides toward fulfilling its destiny as a great nation.

With the foundation we have built and an unshakable resolve to move forward, I have no doubt that together, we will rally around him, united in the supreme interest of Benin, to achieve progress that brings well-being, pride, and prosperity to all.

Long live the Republic!

Long live Benin!
