Approximately two months prior, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) exhibited remarkable unity. This solidarity came in the wake of a ruling by the appeals jury of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which stripped the Lions de la Teranga of their African champion title, subsequently awarding it to Morocco. The governing body had consolidated its efforts behind its president, Abdoulaye Fall, to lodge an official appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
